The Hoshin Group

Leadership and Executive Coaching

Nothing splendid has ever been achieved except by those who dared believe that something inside of them was superior to circumstance. -Bruce Barton

Provenance: place of origin; derivation.

Hoshin, pronounced hō’ shin, is a Japanese word which, loosely translated, means compass.  The compass is a tool which anyone, with focus and a bit of training, can use anytime, anywhere, to get someplace new.  All that you need to reach the new destination are three things – to know where you are, to know where you want to go, and the willingness to move there.  The compass is portable and can be used over and over again regardless of where you’ve been and where you’re headed.  Like skills learned through coaching, once you know how to use it, it can help you to navigate the rest of your life more expertly and efficiently, allowing you to more thoroughly enjoy the journey.

Business people may recognize the terms Hoshin Planning or Hoshin Kanri as they relate to a well known quality management and strategic planning process.  The method is a collaborative one devised to access the inner wisdom or “know how” of the team, capture and cement strategic goals as well as flashes of insight about the future and develop the means to bring these into reality. These ideas are foundational to how the Hoshin Group approaches its work with both coaching and consulting clients.

Our Guiding Principle – Our clients are the experts in their lives and their businesses and therefore they have their own best answers.  It is our responsibility as coaches to help them to build awareness about how they show up to their lives and work and to create an environment which facilitates powerful insights, propelling them to move into action to create positive, sustainable change.
